Undergraduate Students

A major in marine sciences provides students with a broad curriculum in the sciences, which demonstrates how the different disciplines can be brought to bear on understanding marine processes and managing ocean resources wisely. Learn more »

Master's Students

The Graduate Program in Oceanography is centered in the Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences, which serves as a focus of interdisciplinary studies and research in estuarine, coastal and open-ocean environments. Learn more »

PH.D Students

The PhD degree in the Graduate Program in Oceanography is intended to train students at an advanced level in interdisciplinary science and technology related to oceanographic, climatic, littoral, and coastal marine processes. Learn more »
For the student who wants more than a degree from their education, Rutgers University is the place to be. Simple asking professors landed me many opportunities throughout my undergraduate career, and I credit this with getting me accepted into a fully funded PhD program recently...
My valuable experiences at Rutgers were not limited to just academia and also involved many extracurricular activities. As a freshman I immediately got involved with the Oceanography Club on campus, which was one of the best decisions I could have made...
I was granted an internship through Teledyne Webb Research at RUCOOL in the Summer of 2014 to go through intensive training on Slocum gliders. In the glider lab I learned the challenging and delicate process of becoming a glider technician, interpreting glider...
The fundamentals of oceanography that I learned and council with Professor Kohut aided me in getting an A in my Introduction to Oceanography class. My connections with Professor Schofield has lead me to potential lab work on shad in the Raritan River with another of Rutger’s professors, Olaf Jensen...
Rutgers University is already a very strong name, but especially in my major. Not many organizations in the world prepare their undergraduates like Rutgers does. In my time here was exposed to real world sampling techniques, identification of...
Choosing Rutgers was undoubtedly the best decision I made as an undergraduate. While a student at Rutgers, I have had every opportunity to pursue my interests and develop my skills as a scientist. Many of the courses offered involve...
Being a student of marine sciences was an amazing journey, especially at Rutgers. Studying this major means that you will learn literally how our world functions. The oceans determine many important things that most take for granted, such as the Oxygen we breathe and the earth's climate. Studying this has allowed me to go to many beautiful places that we all dream about. For example, through Rutgers, I went to study abroad at the University of Queensland in Australia. In Australia, I was able to dive at the Great Barrier Reef which is a dream for those of us studying marine sciences. Everything I learned at Rutgers has allowed me to start the master's program that I wanted to and will allow me to find a job that I will love.

I applied to the Rutgers and once aboard was immediately drawn to the Marine Sciences Department. The vigor with which oceanographic study was discussed as well as the research opportunities for undergraduates hooked me immediately. The wealth of knowledge and experience in the building not only helped me grow but also helped shape my life plan moving forward...
