Short Bio
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sophie is a graduate of Cal State Maritime where she attained a B.S. in Marine Transportation, a minor in Oceanography, and a Third Mates license for unlimited tonnage vessels. Her journey to college involved starting a film business, North Ridge Films, in 2013, and working multiple culinary jobs where she catered events, sold wholesale to restaurants, and worked on a food truck, and charter yacht.
Her journey into sensors, programming, and marine technology began with building a CTD in 2019. She continued to then work on Cal State Maritime’s Oceanography Department’s Research Buoy near the start of 2021 – work still ongoing.
Sophie loves working on, and being near, the ocean. In her sparse spare time she enjoys programming, 3D modeling, woodworking, working with paint and pyrography, writing projects spanning recipe and fiction books, poems, and film scripts, and last, but certainly not least, cooking.
