The Balearic Islands Coastal Observing and Forecasting System (SOCIB) is pleased to announce that Dr. Hugh Roarty has accepted an invitation to join its International Scientific Steering Committee (ISSC) for the 2025-2028 term.
SOCIB, a leading marine research infrastructure operating in the Western Mediterranean, provides advanced observing and forecasting systems, data, and tools to enhance ocean understanding and knowledge transfer to society. Established in 2014 as a Unique Scientific and Technical Infrastructure, SOCIB is supported by Spain’s Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities, the Spanish National Research Council, and the Balearic Islands Government.
Dr. Roarty will join an esteemed panel of nine internationally recognized experts advising SOCIB’s Governing Council on scientific and technological activities. The ISSC plays a critical role in assessing SOCIB’s Strategic Plan (2021-2024) and shaping the future 2025-2028 plan, aligned with SOCIB’s vision of advancing marine research and fostering a Mediterranean Digital Twin to address climate change.
Dr. Roarty’s expertise will be instrumental as SOCIB continues to lead in marine R&D&I, contributing to decision-making in national, European, and international contexts. His participation will include a one-and-a-half-day meeting this autumn, either onsite or online.
