Congrats to the Rutgers Immersive Learning through Science Storytelling team that received the Broader Vision Award! The Immersive Learning through Science Storytelling team represents a partnership between Rutgers Departments of Plant Sciences and Marine & Coastal Sciences. The Festival founder Diane Raver (who describes our lab’s mission to empower students and foster public trust in science) and she then presented us with the attached New Jersey Senate Resolution (see photo) that states:

“The Rutgers University Immersive Learning  through Science Storytelling Lab has secured a sterling reputation for developing science film leaders whose projects seek to raise awareness of environmental issues and increase public trust in science and, to that end, the faculty and staff have fostered strong partnerships between student filmmakers and university scientists, thus facilitating a welcoming space in which young people are empowered do explore their creative abilities.”

On Sunday during the film festival, Rutgers undergraduates Or Doni and Emily Schneider screened their film “Biting Back” featuring Jim’s graduate students and their catnip research, and undergraduate Colby Koutrakos presented our trailer for “Mysteries of 9° North” featuring Costa’s deep-sea microbial research (which won the award for best ‘documentary trailer’).
