Short Bio:

My name is Alexandra, but I go by “Allie.” I grew up in Southern California, not far from the ocean. I think that’s where my love of the ocean began. After a few years of meandering through community college, trying to figure out what I wanted to do. I got involved in some field ecology classes that sparked my interest in Marine ecology and oceanography. After earning my AS in biology and a certificate in field ecology, I attended Cal Maritime Academy and earned my BS in oceanography. The amount of time I’ve spent in school has allowed me to have some wonderful experiences, including two volunteer positions on NOAA fishery cruises, which led me to want to pursue research. I’m not very picky about what I want to study, but I do have some special interests in marine mammals and Crustaceans. I previously did undergraduate research on HABs in the SF estuary, and I’d love an opportunity to explore HABs’ impacts on the East Coast. Not related, but I also really love ice cream, despite my lactose intolerance trying to hinder my consumption of it.
