Research
My main interest is monitoring and studying coastal ocean conditions. I am currently working on comparing CODAR data with an in situ drifter in an effort to improve Coast Guard search and rescue missions. I enjoy working with HF RADAR, AUVs and drifters to obtain a comprehensive, real time view of the ocean.
This past summer I put both my Spanish and oceanography majors to work for an internship at Qualitas Instruments (CODAR Europe) in Madrid, Spain. The majority of the time I worked with a new HF RADAR toolbox in Matlab to process CODAR data. I also spent a few weeks installing two new CODAR sites in the ports of Barcelona and Masnou and repairing a station in Galicia. Spain was great....Thanks Qualitas!
Interests/Hobbies
I have been surfing for 9 years and it has generated my initial interest in oceanography. I always liked combining multiple surf reports, the weather channel and NWS to find the best time and place to catch some waves. I also enjoy rock climbing and anything associated with the outdoors.
