  1. Codar group
This semester our group has been working with CODAR (Coastal Ocean Dynamics Applications Radar, or in short, Coastal RADAR), which is a High Frequency radar system that measures surface currents. Our job has been to take the CODAR data from 2 sites on the coast of Spain and put this data into Google Earth. Once in Google Earth, we have been working on getting this data to update automatically hour by hour. This will allow us to track the patterns in surface currents near the coast so RU 27 can reach her final destination safely.

  5. Google Earth

Being that Google Earth has become a primary visual data compilation source for the Rutgers Glider Fleet, our team’s mission has three main goals. Our first goal is to make data downloading, reading, and understanding easy for the general public, and our second goal is to organize and keep data up-to-date for the glider and science teams. Our final goal is to work to unlock and advance the capabilities of Google Earth for data manipulation, visualization, and application.

    - Worst Case (kmz updated 11/12/09) - This kmz shows a screen shot from October 12th. This is the busiest we have seen the shipping lanes and surrounding waters.
    - Vessel Tracking (kmz updated 11/16/09) - This is the most recent screen shot made into a kmz

  8. Drake
In the Drake group we've been looking for relavent data for the Drake mission to help with flight planning and/or to compare this data to the data Drake has been collecting to see if the instruments on Drake are working properly.  So far we've been in contact with people from Southampton working on a RADIPMOC mooring array across the Atlantic to see what data they have available for us to compare the Drake data to.

  9. Barnacles
    lepas_anatifera_sm.jpg
Group Mission: To discover everything we can about the barnacles (Lepas species)residing on RU27 and communicate our new found knowledge to an interested readership. So far, we have identified the genus of the species, measured the size of sample barnacles, researched growth-rate. We are currently exploring biofouling options.
